Boat Overturned

On Tuesday, December 18, at approximately 11:15 am fireboats were called to an overturned boat with one individual on board. The call originated in Franklin County by Christmas Tree Island B-9. Upon arrival by Fireboat 11-5, firemen found that no boat had overturned, apparantly a bass fihserman had hit a stump with his trolling motor and the impact kicked the trolling motor up into the boat and into the locked position. The strong wind pushed the boater onto the nearby rip-rap. No injuries or damage was reported.

While training at Bernard's landing, FB 11-5 and 11-1 responded to an EMS call atthe Mexican Resturant located at Crazy Horse Marina. Squad 10 (Scruggs) also responded. Patient care was administered by a Doctor who was boating with his family.

On Saturday afternoon fireboats responded to the islands off of Anthony Ford Road in Bedford county for a reported overturned sailboat. All of the occupants were wet, cold but safe. After attending to the occupants the fireboats turned their efforts to righting the boat.

The SML Triathalon was held this morning at the State Park. Due to the cold air and water the water course was cut in half. fireboats 11-1, 11-2, 11-5, 11-6 and 11-8 particpated. We were also joined by Scruggs Dive Team.

Two alarms in one week at the condo's at Mariner's Landing. Earlier this week, there was a report of the smell of propane on the 4th floor which turned out to be an activated Ansul system in the kitchen that gave off an offensive odor.

Fireboat 11-5 assisted the Scruggs Dive Team today in raising a Suburban from the lake around B25. Weather was cloudy and cold. Job was successful. Then we recieved a report of a floating dock out at Christmas tree island which we could not locate.

On Friday morning units were dispatched to a structure fire on Smithview drive. Company's from Moneta, Saunders, Huddleston, Bedford and Smith Mountain Lake were dispatched around 8:00am. Upon arrival units found working structure fire with electric lines down with propane tanks venting.

On Friday, August 31st at around midnight Franklin county dispatched Company 10,9,4 11 and Bedford county company 8 for a structure fire on Stripers lane. The home was fully involved upon arrival. Manpower was the biggest concern due to high humidity and volume of fire.
