On Saturday afternoon divers from DGIF and the Scruggs Dive Team recovered the body of the missing boater from last weekend's boating accident . Company 11 assisted along with the Franklin county Sheriff's department

The Poker Run weekend turned out to be very busy for Company 11.It began with an EMS call at Marine's Landing around 5:00pm on Friday, followed by another EMS call on a House Boat at W1, then at 10:30pm we responded along with Co.

Two working structure fires on the lake today. One up at the vincity of Magnum Marina, house was a total loss and the second was a single wide in the area of Beaver Creek.

At 10:54 today, Company 11 and Franklin county company 10 responded to a person in the water at R13. Apparatnly the victim had been on a jet ski and the jet ski began to sink. Victim was pulled from the water by a neighbor and his boat.

On the early morning of the 29th units responded to a working fire on Lakewood road. Responding Departments were Company 8 ( Moneta), Company 11 ( Marine fire/rescue), Company 10 ( Saunders), company 7 Huddleston), Company 1 (Bedford), and Company 13 as RIT ( Stewartsville).

At around 9:30 on Thursday evening a call came in for a possible boating accident involving a bass boat and a chris craft boat. Intial reports were that two people were injured. Companies 11, 7, 10, squad 7, 14-8 and County 10 responed.

On Monday afternoon around 2:45pm units were dipatched to the area of Parkway Marina for a possible drowing. Company 11 and Squad 7 were dispatched. Within 15 minutes units were cancelled as the swimmer was located by the family safe and on shore.

Looking at the number of calls that we have run from January to June, we have run 111 calls for 2014 compared to 89 calls for 2013. Where was the increase? The increase came from assist EMS calls to the seven land-based units .

Fireboats , as well as Scruggs Rescue were called out last night for a boating accident that took place in the vincinty of R11. Two bass boats collide and four people went into the water, three were recovered .

As of Sunday morning we have run four calls, an EMS assist, a reported structure fire ( ended up to be acontrol burn) a reported boat overturned (ended up to be a paddle boat) and a floating dock. A full assortment of calls!

Fireboats 11-4 and 11-8 responded along with Company10 to a reported brush fire in the vicinity of R20. Call ended up tobe a control burn. When burning brush, please call Bedford dispatch first and advise, then stay with the burn until it is extinquished.

At approximately 9:00pm units from Franklin county company 15, 10, 9 , 4 along with Fireboat 11-8 responded to a reported structure fire at Window World. A quick knockdown and methodical overhaul allowed for the Fire Marshall to determine the cause.

On Saturday aftenoon around 4:00pma thnder storm came through the lake which caused several calls. 1st cal was a fire alarm around B25, 2nd call came from a sailboat that took refuge on Byrd's island, but needed assistance.

The fire this morning was actually a boat dock. Units had the fire under control in 20 minutes. The Haz Mat came from materials involved in the fire.

At approx 5:30 pm, fireboats reponded to a possible drowning in the area of R2. Fireboat 11-7, 11-5, 11-8 and 11-1 responded along with Rescue 7 and Company 7 as well asScruggs Dive Team. Unified Command was established.

At 12:36pm Fireboats and HazMat personnel were called for a 55 galon drum floating at R-58. As of 2:30 units were still onscene.

At 10:33 am on July 19th Fireboats were dispatched to a possible boat fire in the vicinity of R16 on the Roanoke river. Fireboats 11-5, 11-7 and 11-8 responded, upon arrival, it was determined the boat had overheated.
